Visiting Victoria has more to offer than just the beautiful laneways of Melbourne.
Take your campervan hire throughout the beautiful state of Victoria and experience the vast beauty of this varied state.
4 of the highlights you will encounter on your journey include:
The Great Ocean Road:
The Great Ocean Road is one of the most scenic camper routes you will find in the world. Stretching across 243 kilometres of the Victorian coastline, the road begins at the ‘surf capital’ of Torquay and ends at Allansford. Constructed by returned soldiers from WWI, the road was dedicated to those lost in war, making the Great Ocean Road the largest war memorial in the world.
The main event of the Great Ocean Road, are the Twelve Apostles, as the limestone towers rise dramatically from the Southern Ocean along the Victorian Coastline.
Developed over thousands of years, these natural wonders are the result of wind erosion as softer parts of the limestone began to fall away and collapse. From Melbourne, the Twelve Apostles are about a 4 hour drive.
Along the Great Ocean Road is the Otway National Park with walking and hiking trails where you can explore the vast beauty of the forests.
Also available is a Treetop Walk and a Zipline Eco Tour depending on the level of adventure you want.
The Treetop Walk covers around 1km of forest from 30m high. The longest and tallest canopy walk of its type in the world, all ages will enjoy the view from the top.
The Zipline Eco-Tour is best for the slightly more adventurous members of the family, but is also well worth conquering that fear of heights. Running for around 2.5 hours, you will fly through the forest with 8 cloud stations, 6 flights and journey across 2 breathtaking suspension bridges.
African Safari Park:
Just 30 minutes in your motorhome hire from the Melbourne CBD is the Werribee Open Range Zoo where you and the family can enjoy the wonders of an African Safari, without even leaving Australia.
With over 200 hectares of open savannah, you will come face to face with lions, monkeys, giraffes, rhinos, gorillas and zebras among other native African species. A guided tour lasts for around 40 minutes with the opportunity to engage in feeding time with a range of other animals in the ‘wild’.
Take a nice 1.5 hour drive from Melbourne via a bridge to Phillip Island, and make sure you allow plenty of time for all the island has in store.
For the motor enthusiasts, the Phillip Island Circuit is home to the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in October of each year, among other events and throughout the rest of the year, it is open to the public to enjoy hot laps, guided tours and go karting.
For the nature lovers, there is a Koala Conservation Centre where you can see them up close on treetop boardwalks and the Phillip Island Wildlife Park which is home to over 100 native Australia animals, plus the opportunity to feed Kangaroos.
The main event however for Phillip Island is the Penguin Parade as each evening at sunset, the worlds smallest penguins return to the shore after a day of fishing and finding food.
You will have the opportunity to view these tiny penguins as they waddle on mass back up the sand dunes, from an outdoor platform, underground window or elevated tower, making this an experience to remember.
All throughout the world, Victoria is famous for it’s award-winning wines. As you explore the Yarra Valley in your campervan hire, you will get to experience the quaint roadside stalls, wineries and gourmet outlets scattered throughout the region. Upon arrival, give your campervan a break and relax on a wine tour through the valley where your guides will know all the best spots for quality wine and value for money.
Victoria may be one of the smaller states in Australia but it most certainly pulls its weight in terms of sites to see and explore. Make sure you take in all that Victoria has to offer during your next campervan hire in Victoria with SHAREaCAMPER.
